Pool Deck & Patio — Pavers, Concrete & Turf Around Your New Pool

Just had a pool installed? The work doesn't stop at the pool itself — Turf's Up Contracting handles everything around it. We install paver pool decks, concrete patios, and artificial turf surrounds that tie your new pool into a finished backyard. From equipment pad concrete to a full paver deck with fencing and sod or turf borders, we pick up where your pool installer leaves off and finish the job. With 18 years serving Virginia Beach and Hampton Roads since 2008, Turf's Up Contracting has built hundreds of paver patios, concrete driveways, and pool deck surrounds across the region.

Why Turf's Up Contracting

We grade, prep, and pour — handling drainage and base work most patio jobs skip, which is why concrete patios crack or sink within a few years. Pair your new patio with sod, artificial turf, or a fence for a complete backyard upgrade in one project.

Areas We Serve

We primarily serve Virginia Beach, Chesapeake, and Norfolk, with additional service available in Suffolk, Portsmouth, Hampton, and Newport News.

Built for Virginia Beach’s Coastal Conditions

Pavers and concrete in Hampton Roads face conditions most inland installations don’t — salt air, sandy soil, high humidity, and heavy summer storms. Turf’s Up Contracting builds paver patios and concrete work designed specifically for coastal Virginia: proper base depth for our soil conditions, drainage slope built into every pour and layout, and materials rated for UV and salt exposure. Poor base preparation is the leading cause of paver failure in Virginia Beach — we build ours to 6–8 inches of compacted aggregate base minimum for pedestrian applications and deeper for driveways.

Our Paver & Concrete Installation Process

Step 1 — Site Assessment & Design

We measure your space, evaluate drainage and grade, and discuss material options. For pool decks and patios, we factor in sun exposure, salt proximity, and bare-foot comfort in our material recommendations.

Step 2 — Excavation

We excavate to the proper depth for the application — 6 to 8 inches for patios and walkways, 10 to 12 inches for driveways. Shortcuts on depth are why pavers sink and shift.

Step 3 — Base Installation

We install and compact crushed aggregate base in lifts. Hampton Roads’ soil composition requires thorough compaction — we don’t rush this step.

Step 4 — Geotextile Fabric

We install geotextile fabric over the compacted base to separate the aggregate from the native soil below, preventing migration and maintaining base stability long-term. This step is skipped by many contractors and is one of the main reasons pavers settle unevenly within a few years.

Step 5 — Edge Restraints & Sand Bedding

We install commercial-grade edge restraints to keep the paver field locked in position long-term, then apply a 1-inch sand bedding layer screeded to grade before paver placement.

Step 6 — Paver Installation

We install pavers in your chosen pattern with consistent joint spacing. All cuts are made cleanly at borders and edges.

Step 7 — Polymeric Sand & Sealing

We sweep polymeric sand into joints and compact. We can apply sealer to enhance color and protect against salt, staining, and UV exposure — especially recommended for coastal properties.

FAQ

How much does a paver patio cost? Most residential paver patios range from $15-30 per square foot depending on pattern and base prep needed.

Can you combine concrete work with turf or sod? Yes — many of our projects combine a paver or concrete patio with new sod or artificial turf borders in the same visit.

Do you offer a warranty on paver installation?

Yes — we stand behind our base preparation and installation work. If settling or shifting occurs due to our base preparation, we'll come back and fix it. We build to proper depth and compaction standards specifically so this doesn't happen — 6 to 8 inches of compacted aggregate base minimum, geotextile fabric, proper edge restraints, and polymeric sand in joints. Ask any contractor you get a bid from whether they use geotextile fabric and what depth they excavate — those answers tell you everything about the quality of their installation.

How much does a paver patio cost in Virginia Beach?

Most paver patios in Virginia Beach range from $15 to $30 per square foot installed, depending on paver material, pattern complexity, base prep needed, and square footage. A standard 300 sq ft patio typically runs $4,500–$9,000 installed. Travertine, porcelain, and premium concrete pavers run higher than standard concrete pavers. Contact us for a free on-site measurement and estimate.

What paver materials work best in Virginia Beach's coastal climate?

Concrete pavers with a dense mix and sealed finish handle salt air well and are the most affordable option. Travertine is popular for pool decks — it stays cooler underfoot and naturally resists salt. Porcelain pavers are the most durable and lowest maintenance option for coastal properties. We'll recommend the best fit for your budget, sun exposure, and use case.

Why do pavers sink or shift over time?

Almost always inadequate base preparation — insufficient depth, poor compaction, or missing edge restraints. Hampton Roads' soil shifts more than inland areas. We build to a minimum 6–8 inch compacted aggregate base on all pedestrian applications to prevent this.

Do you install paver pool decks?

Yes — pool deck paver installation is one of our specialties. We work with homeowners who have recently had pools installed and need the surrounding deck, patio, and turf or sod areas completed. We handle the full surround — pavers, concrete, turf borders, and fencing — in one project.

How long does paver patio installation take?

Most residential paver patios are completed in 2–4 days depending on size and site prep needed. Larger projects with significant grading or drainage work may take longer. We give you a project timeline before we start.

Do you serve Chesapeake and Norfolk for paver installation?

Yes — we install paver patios, driveways, and walkways throughout Hampton Roads including Virginia Beach, Chesapeake, Norfolk, Suffolk, Portsmouth, Hampton, and Newport News.

How do I get a paver patio or concrete estimate?
